Title:

Ballerina Illustrations

Task:

The goal of this project was to create a character/figure drawing of our choice and practice vector/line based drawing on Adobe Illustrator along with using different color schemes.

Tools:

Illustrator

Inspiration:

Growing up as a dancer and ice skater, I have always loved the unique body positions of dancers - specifically, ballerinas. Before starting this project, I looked at many photos to find an interesting position that also showed off the costume of the dancer. Below are some photos that I looked at.

Context/Final Product:

This was my first time using Illustrator so I learned a lot in this project. Before starting, I sketched the ballerina but struggled with getting the exact body position. After consulting my professor, he suggested I try drawing the ballerina upside down. Still not getting the right form, his next suggestion was to use the photo and to just practice using Illustrator and more specifically, the pen tool. This ended up being the best approach for me as I was able to use the photograph to help me learn body angles and shadows. Besides creating the body forms, I made four different color variations for the project and printed for critique in class.
